There are some of us here who can remember the irrepressible enthusiasm, the cannon and the bonfires, which followed the announcement of the result in a letter from Mr. WEBSTER to the President of the College:
All is safe and certain. The Chief Justice delivered an opinion this morning [Feb. 2, 1819,] in our favor, on all the points. In this opinion WASHINGTON, LIVINGSTON, JOHNSON, and STORY, Justices, are understood to have concurred. DUVAL, Justice, it is said, dissents. Mr. Justice TODD, is not present. The opinion goes the whole length and leaves nothing to be decided. I give you my congratulations, on this1 Samuel G.
